WELCOME to Kettle Creek Public School
We are thrilled that you and your child have joined our school community and we are confident that this will be a wonderful journey as they learn and grow with us. We would like to share a little information about this fantastic school community so that you have a sense of who we are and how you can best support your child’s school experience.
The Kettle Creek P.S. school day begins at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m. with morning supervision beginning at 9 a.m. Please do not drop off students prior to this time unless they are registered with the Milestones before and after school program. We have 2 nutrition breaks at 10:55-11:45 and 1:45-2:25 p.m. If you need to pick your child up during school hours, call the office to let us know so we can have them ready for you. If at all possible, please avoid taking your child out during the school day as it becomes very disruptive for everyone.
Kettle Creek P.S. is a Platinum Certified ECO school which means that we are very serious about the task of taking care of the planet. In order to minimize our waste we ask that you send your child’s lunch, water and snacks in reusable containers and avoid prepackaged items. We will have many environmental initiatives throughout the school year and invite your family to participate and reinforce this important learning at home.
TVDSB schools run on a 10 day cycle and a calendar for the school year can be accessed on our website. There you will find the Professional Development days (PA days) and holidays. Other school or board wide information can be accessed using our website or Facebook page. To help us ensure your child is safe when they are not at school, we ask that you use the attendance line (1-844-305-3756) to report all absences. As well, please notify the school office in writing of any changes in your contact information. New cell numbers, address changes, or other pertinent information needs to be kept up to date at all times in case of an emergency.
Regular reports will be given to you during the year and interviews may be arranged periodically at the request of the parent or teacher. Please call your child’s teacher at school, or send a note any time to discuss concerns or questions. Additionally, you will receive a monthly newsletter and other updates through email regarding school wide events and Home and School/School Council meetings.
If your child rides the school bus, Student Transportation Services will be directly in touch with you regarding bus stops location and pick up/drop off times. It is expected that all children ride their regular bus each day. School Board Policy states that bus changes are not permitted. Emergency situations may be dealt with on an individual basis by notifying your bus driver. If you are providing transportation for your child, our drop off location is directly SOUTH of the school at the Port Stanley Arena. Our staff will be out at the pylons each day between 9-9:15 for drop off and 3:30-3:50 for pick up.
We are very pleased to let you know that we have a wonderful parent volunteer community here who support our efforts in a wide variety of ways. The research is clear that student success in school improves significantly when parents are engaged and involved in their child's school community. To that end, we hope you will join our Home and School Council during your child’s school experience at Kettle Creek P.S. The group meets together approximately 5 times a year and the meetings are approximately 1 hour. If you would like to be in the loop about what is being planned or want to find out how to help, we are happy to add you to the email list. Please send your name, your child's name and your email address and we will forward this information. As well, our meetings dates and links are always posted on the Website and our Facebook page.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to give us a call and we will be happy to chat with you at any time. In the meantime, welcome to Kettle Creek P.S! We hope you will jump right in - the waters are warm!
Sincerely,
Connie Holborn (Principal) and Hanna Ivins (Vice Principal)
